Wow-Worthy Swimming Pool Designs

Swimming pools are fairly impressive by design to begin with. Of course, there are always some who take it to the next level, creating impressive, innovative swimming pools one can't help but envy. Here is a great collection pictures & descriptions of some of the coolest pools worldwide.

The Largest Mineral Pool: Glenwood Springs

Glenwood hot springs in the Colorado mountains is a personal favorite because I've actual been there! This pool was so warm, even though it was cold outside, and it was very relaxing - not to mention HUGE! The big pool stretches over two city blocks... That's a big pool. The mineral water is natural and highly therapeutic; you can feel any body aches you may have dissolve within moments. Nature does a great job of keeping this pool at an average of 90 degrees, which is definitely impressive in comparison to conventional swimming pool heating methods. This attraction is great for kids and adults alike, and is a must-see if you visit Colorado.

Hugh Hefner Sky Villa in Las Vegas, NV

Scared of heights? I wouldn't recommend shelling out up to $40,000 a night for this suite, but even after shaking off the sense of vertigo the pictures alone give you, it's hard to overlook the brilliance of this infinity pool. True to the elegant image Playboy tries to maintain, this swimming pool is stunning and beautiful in every way. What a suitable location, too, at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. With mirrored ceilings, 24/7 butler and a rotating bed, this might be the closest us "ordinary" people will ever get to living like Hefner for a night!

The [current] Largest Crystalline Pool in the World

Yep, this one has the Guinness record for being the world's largest crystalline water pool. To put it in perspective, it equals about 6,000 regular size swimming pools. Take a look at the picture - it's enormous!! Needless to say, this spectacular pool is a huge attraction for San Alfonso del Mar, Chile. Aside from its enormous, record holding size, this lagoon-like pool boasts crystal clear, tropically refreshing, turquoise water that maintains a comfortable temperature about 6 degrees higher than the nearby sea water. Somehow this still classifies as a pool and not a man made ocean!

Waterworld Resort in China

This award winning modern design stands apart from the rest for so many reasons. Since it is built within a natural, water-filled quarry, there are many underwater public areas to enjoy - seems like you can take a swim without getting wet! Yes, the pool itself is impressive, but this resort in Songjiang, China offers bungee jumping, rock climbing, cafes, restaurants....oh, and a giant waterfall that partially replicates Niagra Falls. Escaping to this resort would be more like escaping to another world.

Swim in a Crater

This mineral spring is nestled away in the Homestead Crater in Midway, Utah and is definitely a very unusual yet exciting swimming hole. The pool itself is crystal clear and accessed via a 110-foot tunnel. If you're a scuba enthusiast, you'll really enjoy this warm water experience as you explore the chamber's sides. With a prime location near several ski resorts, it's no wonder this pool is extremely popular and sought out.

Deepest Pool in the World

Brussels, Belgium boasts the largest recreational dive center in the world "Nemo 33". With a circular pit that is 108 feet deep and two large flat-bottom areas 16 and 32 feet deep, this neat pool simulates underwater caves and is the perfect place to get some diving experience. If you don't feel like getting in, you can watch from one of many underwater windows, each at various depths. Nemo 33 is filled with highly filtered, non-chlorinated spring water that is kept between 30-32 degrees, eliminating the need for a wetsuit. This is a great facility for beginners wanting to learn diving skills in a comfortable, controlled environment.

Look closely - would you believe this is actually a pool made of sidewalk chalk!? Chalk artist Julian Beever is simply amazing, as anyone can see. His artwork really plays with your eyes and sense of perception, doesn't it? As realistic as can be, these pools he drew are captivating, awe-inspiring and definitely deserve to be on this list, even though you can't swim in them!

What an interesting article. Thank you. Nemo 33 looks deep even from the photos. I don't think I could handle the Las Vegas one. Looks like you would just swim over the edge. Amazing pools, and last one is really neat.
